Reasons Why Portable Appliances Should be Tested and Tagged

Portable appliance testing is a process that is followed in many advanced economies like Australia, New Zealand and UK. This process is alternatively known as PAT and is considered to be instrumental in terms of safety protection and compliance regulations. This process can be categorised under the heading of in service inspection and equipment test.

Compliance to safety regulations

The advancement in science and technology has led to the discovery and development of many different types of electrical appliances. Many electrical appliances are used for domestic, business and industrial purposes and some of them depend upon pretty high sources of voltage. An aberration or defect in these appliances could result in electric shocks that can seriously injure the workers or employees in an organisation. To prevent such kind of occurrences the Australian Health and safety regulations have introduced several strictly regulated rules about appliance testing and tagging. If you run a business or an enterprise which uses appliances for public use it’s your moral and legal responsibility to send the appliances to a test and tag agency prior to their actual use.

Save yourself from legal hassle

Something as basic as a hair dryer becomes a health risk if it malfunctions. If one of the guests on your guest house gets hurt by an electrical appliance dysfunction particularly one which has not been put through a testing and tagging company then you are in deep trouble. You can be fined heavily and your business license might get revoked. On the other hand if your appliances do have the appropriate tags then you can easily show them in court and resent this as an evidence of sincerity and dedication towards your employees and co workers.
